Snail Roll Seed Starting for Center Park

saylorfarm

A new technique for starting seeds promises to nurture seeds and seedlings while dramatically reducing the need for potting up seedlings prior to planting. An Instagram story and then some Google searches and I was completely smitten. This will work!

Begin with some repurposed plastic wrap, bubble wrap or similar waterproof material. Cut into strips about 5-6" wide and 3' long. The width of the plastic reflects the depth of the "pot". For larger perennials, trees or shrubs 6" may be too narrow and a smaller annual may need to be only 4" wide. The length of the strip depends upon how many seeds are to be planted in the snail roll. More seeds need a longer strip. It is optional to stuff the roll into a milk jug or pot, but they need to be tied with string if no pot is used.

Please come to the free demonstration of Snail Roll seed starting on Saturday March 29 3-5pm at the First Religious Society in Carlisle. This is within walking distance of Center Park and immediately follows the Twiggy Workshop/Pruning Workshop. Center Park will have two tables at the Carlisle Garden Club's Seed give-away. Please come! No need to register or pay a fee, just show up. :)

... if they grow, which at least some should, they will make 2025 a colorful pollinator-friendly Carlisle Center Park.
